Benjamin Kamanga

Zep- Re PTA Reinsurance Company Director, Strategy & Investments

BIO

Benjamin Mutuku Kamanga is currently ZEP-RE’s Director, Strategy & Investments. Benjamin started his career and trained and qualified as an accountant at Deloitte, before joining the insurance industry where he has worked for the last 26 years – 13 years at Lion of Kenya Insurance Company Limited (currently ICEA Lion) and 13 years at ZEP-RE.

Benjamin is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FCPAK), a member of the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (CPS), Certified Trainer in Corporate Governance (by the Centre of Corporate Governance & Commonwealth Association of Corporate Governance) and is also a Certified Executive Leadership Coach.

He is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School for Bachelor of Commerce, and he has a Master of Business Administration and Global Business Management Course respectively. Benjamin sits on the Advisory Board of WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc.

Bernard R. Nsengiyumva is a lawyer by training specialised in financial sector policy and regulation as well as corporate governance. Bernard is currently a director – Policy and Regulation Department at the National Bank of Rwanda where he coordinates all aspects related to financial sector policies and regulations as well as AML/CFT since 2009. He currently also serves as the Board Member of the Capital Market Authority.

Jean Bosco Iyacu

BIO

Mr. Jean Bosco Iyacu is the Chief Executive Officer of Access to Finance Rwanda since February 2021, prior to becoming AFR’s CEO, Iyacu served the organization as the Director of Programs for 7 years and has been instrumental in the design and implementation of a diverse range of financial inclusion and financial sector development programs in Rwanda.
Before joining AFR, He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Business Development Center (RBDC), an entrepreneurship and business incubation facility.
He also served in various leadership capacities in some of Africa’s leading Financial Institutions such as KCB Bank Rwanda Ltd where he was the Regional Business Manager and Head of Retail and SME Banking.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. Iyacu is a Certified Expert in Microfinance, SME Financing, and Inclusive Insurance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and a Certified Expert in Digital Money from the Digital Frontiers Institute.

Eric Niyongabo currently serves as the Director of ICT and Innovation at Prime Life Insurance, boasting extensive expertise in both the insurance and technology domains. With a proven history of successfully leading IT/Digital projects for over a decade, he is adept at utilizing innovative and modern technology to address customers' challenges.

Eric's background includes significant experience in overseeing IT services and operations, as well as designing and leading the implementation of IT projects. His proficiency extends to roles such as a Web and Network Administrator at NAEB and an ICT and Marketing Officer at FERWAFA before joining Prime Life Insurance.

Educationally, Eric holds an MBA in International Business and a BSc in IT Management, complemented by globally recognized certifications such as PMP®, ITIL®, and Cert CII. As a leader, Eric excels in motivating teams and cultivating digital mindsets toward embracing continuous change. AGNES UWANYILIGIRA

Access to Finance Rwanda Chief Programs Officer

BIO

Agnes is the Chief Programs Officer at Access to Finance Rwanda (AFR). She is responsible for shaping AFR’s projects and spearheading their implementation to facilitate the development of an inclusive financial sector in Rwanda.  She also provides expert technical advice on various de-risking initiatives.

Prior to her current role, Agnes served as Head of AFR’s Inclusive Insurance Pillar, leading the implementation of insurance and pension inclusion programs including the Long-Term Savings Scheme (Ejo Heza – LTSS) and the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS). Before joining AFR, she worked as an actuarial professional for 10 years.

She is a qualified Actuary (Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) and a Certified Microinsurance Expert. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of Greenwich and an MSc in Economics and Finance from Warwick University, UK.

Before this, Kevin served at Liberty Life and Metropolitan Cannon in senior finance roles, having started his career at the ICEA LION Group.

Kevin, a Certified Public Accountant, has 18 years of senior leadership experience encompassing strategy, finance, human capital, culture transformation and strategic alliances. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) graduate in Mathematics and Statistics from Kenyatta University and has participated in The Stellenbosch Business School Senior Leadership Development Programme. Sheila Kirika

Sheila is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and currently works at Old Mutual Africa Regions as Actuarial Manager (General Insurance), in charge of 9 countries, including Rwanda. She is passionate about seeing insurance being used as a vehicle to improve the dignity of lives.

At Old Mutual Africa Regions, she is the Corporate Actuary supporting Group reporting on reserving, solvency, and earnings at risk for all countries. She is also the Corporate Actuary for Namibia and Botswana, in charge of Board, Group, and Management reporting on Solvency, Reserving, Risk, and Reinsurance. She has won two awards for IFRS17 implementation – the Africa Regions awards for Radical Leadership, as well as the CFO recognition award.

Her main specialization is General and Medical Insurance. She has vast experience in Consultancy, Industry, and Education, having successfully led high-functioning teams. She has served in numerous Panels including the Health Financing Expert Panel in Kenya, which was responsible for the work behind the NHIF Amendment Act, 2022.

Sheila is a thought leader, having published three articles, and is an expert storyteller. She is especially gifted at telling the story behind numbers. She has been invited to speak at conferences in Diani, Zanzibar, Arusha, Nairobi, Kigali, as well as numerous online webinars. She is also an influencer on LinkedIn and regularly posts content on #winningatwork, #actuarylife, and #diasporalife.
